Megan Proulx Dempsey

Megan Proulx Dempsey is a Partner at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP and joined the real estate department in 2019.  Megan is a highly effective commercial real estate lawyer and community advocate who meets challenges directly to create positive change and lasting value for clients.

Her practice encompasses all areas of commercial real estate transactions, title and use solutions, and eminent domain. Megan’s experience includes: negotiating purchase agreements, including assemblages and areas of environmental concern; structuring interim and permanent loans; representing clients in all stages of land use matters; drafting all varieties of commercial leases and use agreements; and addressing matters associated with the ongoing ownership of a real estate such as management, occupant default, change of use and refinancing.

Megan is also a certified Circuit/Civil Court mediator in Florida, helping resolve matters involving real estate, eminent domain, contracts, and other business disputes.

Prior to joining Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, Megan was senior corporate counsel at TECO Energy where she served virtually all business units and advised TECO leadership. During her 11 years at TECO Megan’s practice focus was primarily real estate driven. Most recently, focusing on utility scale solar and locating and constructing linear facilities.

Megan earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tampa and received her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law.

In her free time Megan advocates for the health and safety of children and families as a long-term gubernatorial appointee and the past chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County.  She is also a board member for CREW Tampa Bay and a committee member of Women of Influence (Tampa Bay Chamber).  Megan and her husband, Jeffrey Dempsey, have three beautiful children.
