ECC ‘SAFE AND SOUND’ WORKSHOP PROMOTES SAFETY, ABUSE AWARENESS

Do you really know how to keep your baby safe in its crib? In case you aren’t up to date, here are some things to avoid: putting the baby on its stomach, having bumper pads around the edges of the crib, and leaving toys next to the baby. Sound odd? Maybe different from grandma’s advice? It’s all part of the new way of keeping kids safe, according to Dr. Carol Lilly, head of child development at the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine department of pediatrics.

Lilly spoke at workshop entitled “Safe & Sound; Promoting the Health and Safety of Babies and Young Children,” the second of a four-part series by the Early Childhood Council, funded by the Children’s Board. The workshop took place at Shriner’s Hospital for Children on the USF Tampa campus.
