- Q: Who is the Children’s Board?
- A: More than 20 years ago, the citizens of Hillsborough County agreed to invest a portion of their property tax dollars to help children realize their dreams. They voted to create the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County – which has proven to be a wise investment. The board funds critical services and supports and is the leading voice and advocate for children in our community. The Children’s Board is the only child-centered organization of its kind in Hillsborough County that generates revenue for the community to help children and families. In the last five years, we’ve invested $34 million taxpayer dollars to generate $201 million new dollars into our community. That’s a return on investment of $6 to $1 directly benefiting children and families.

- Promoting Healthy Births: Helping thousands of women in our community deliver healthy babies–because a baby’s first years impact the rest of their life.
- Improving School Readiness: Ensuring young children have access to early childhood education and support so they can enter kindergarten ready to learn.
- Advancing School Achievement: Giving children the support they need– from after-school care to quality healthcare, so they learn to their fullest potential.
- Helping Families Succeed: Offering all families free access to vital services and supports at our six Family Support and Resource Centers throughout Hillsborough County.

- A: Last year, the Children’s Board invested in approximately 200 programs that improved the lives of more than 200,000 children and their families. Investing today means big payoffs tomorrow – better students, safer neighborhoods, a more productive workforce and a more prosperous economy – so our whole community can thrive.
