Ethics Review Committee

The Children’s Board has established a Research and Evaluation Ethics Review Committee (ERC) with the purpose of providing guidelines for safeguarding the rights and safety of individuals participating in research carried-out under contract with the Children’s Board. These guidelines are based on widely accepted principles of respect for the dignity of research subjects, voluntary participation, informed consent, confidentiality, anonymity and avoidance of harm. The Research and Evaluation Ethics Review Handbook provides guidelines, policies and procedures to help applicants prepare the required protocol for submission to the Children’s Board. Proposed research must take into consideration the time needed for completion of the ERC process. Research cannot be initiated until the ERC Committee reviews and approves a request.
