Family & Neighborhood Supports
Family & Neighborhood Supports provides services and supports to families when they need them. The Children’s Board believes in increasing appropriate services and supports to everyone who needs them - both through individual programs and decisions made by the community and what is locally available. Culture is respected and language needs are met, removing the walls that race, language and culture pose to families. The additional social support networks that are available, along with the addition of new friends and their wisdom, help improve parenting skills, teach the stages of child development and help improve family relations. Residents have the opportunity to grow in leadership, learn new job skills and evaluate the services provided.
The Children’s Board works with agencies in the community, putting plans in place to:
- increase access,
- create service delivery networks,
- get services closer to neighborhoods ready to respond to families’ needs
- help children get ready for school
- help families become self sufficient, and
- encourage people to work together in their communities so that neighbors help each other.
