WHY INVESTING IN OUR CHILDREN MATTERS
Investing early in children and families isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s the smart thing to do. In the past five years, the board has invested $34 million taxpayer dollars to generate $201 million new dollars into Hillsborough County – this demonstrates a return on investment of almost $6-to-$1 benefiting children and families. This has helped us reduce crime and teen pregnancies and improve financial self-sufficiency and overall economic prosperity. So the entire community can thrive.
OUR HISTORY
More than twenty years ago, the citizens of Hillsborough County agreed to invest a portion of their tax dollars to help children realize their dreams. They voted to create the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, which has served as the leading voice and advocate for children and families across the community. Today, the Children’s Board invests in more than 200 programs that touch over 200,000 citizens every year.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As the only child-centered organization of its kind in Hillsborough County that generates revenue for the community to help children and families achieve their dreams, we make a difference by:
Promoting Healthy Births: Every year, we help tens of thousands of women deliver healthy babies—because a baby’s first years have an impact for life.
Improving School Readiness: We help ensure that young children have access to the care and developmental support they need so they can enter kindergarten ready to learn.
Advancing School Achievement: We give children the support they need–from after-school care to quality healthcare–so they can learn to their fullest potential.
Helping Families Succeed: Our Family Support and Resource Centers help families become self-sufficient through a variety of free services, from GED courses to parenting workshops.
